Koyangi stellt vor: Highlight

In unserem heutigen „Koyangi stellt vor“ möchten wir euch die K-Pop Gruppe Highlight (하이라이트) vorstellen. Wir hatten sie bereits vor Kurzem, als Video of the Week mit ihrer Comeback-Single “ Not the End”. 😊 Die Gruppe ist tatsächlich erst kürzlich wieder aktiv geworden und wir freuen uns auf neue Musik! 

Highlight sind vielleicht vielen eher als „Beast“ bekannt     (비스트). Den Namen musste die Gruppe 2017 nach dem Verlassen ihres Labels Cube Entertainment ändern, da sie ihre Namensrechte verloren hatte. Solche vertraglichen Klauseln kommen in Korea tatsächlich hin und wieder vor, Shinhwa hatte jahrelang ein ähnliches Problem. 

Highlight hatten Ihr Debut im Jahr 2009 durch eine “Castingshow” oder sogenannte “Predebut Show”. Sie wurden zunächst als “recycelt” gehandhabt, da die Mitglieder bereits an anderen Castingshows für solche Gruppen wie z.B. 2PM und Big Bang teilgenommen hatten und in den Medien trotzdem wenig bekannt waren. 

Als aber die Promotion für ihre Debut-Single “Bad Girl” anfing, änderte sich dies ganz schnell - die EP verkaufte sich in der ersten Woche 10.000-mal und bis Anfang 2010 40.000-mal (!!), was zu dieser Zeit einer der größten Erfolge für eine neue Gruppe war. 

Es ging weiter mit zahlreichen Auszeichnungen, u.a. für “Rookies” (also Neulinge oder Anfänger). Highlight ist damit eine der meistausgezeichneten Gruppen bei den Golden Disc Awards, Seoul Music Awards und Melon Music Awards. 

2011 hatten Sie ihr Debut in Japan. 

Mit dem Austritt und der Namensänderung in 2017 verließ auch das erste Mitglied Jang Hyun-seung die Gruppe und blieb bei Cube Entertainment. Ihn kennt ihr vielleicht als Teil des Duos „Troublemaker“ mit der Sängerin Hyuna. 2019 verließ auch Yong Jun-Hyung die Gruppe, wegen eines Skandals. 

In 2018 war Doo-joon das erste Mitglied, das den Militärdienst antrat und es wurde trotz eines Albums “Outro” (gesungen von vier Mitgliedern) eine Zeit lang still um die Gruppe, da auch die restlichen Mitglieder zum Militärdienst mussten. Dies passiert auch häufiger in Korea. Meistens pausieren Gruppen dann ihre gemeinsamen Aktivitäten. 2020 verließ Dong-woon das Militär und somit hatten alle Mitglieder Ihren Dienst abgeleistet. 

Im Mai 2021 kam das Comeback-Album “The Blowing” raus. 

In this new edition of our beloved 😉 “Koyangi presents” series, we´re going to talk about the K-Pop group Highlight (하이라이트)! We recently chose their newest hit “Not the end” as our Video of the week. The group just had its Comeback and we are happy to be able to listen to some new music! 

Many might know Highlight as “Beast” (비스트), a name they had to change after leaving the label Cube Entertainment and consequently losing the right to its use. Such contractual issues do sometimes happen in Korea, Shinhwa had to avoid some usage of their own name for quite a while too. 

Highlight debuted in 2009 through a casting show, a.k.a. “predebut show”. They were treated as “recycled”, because some of the group´s members had already appeared in other casting shows for acts such as 2PM and Big Bang, but remained relatively unknown to the media. 

Yet, as soon as their promotions for the debut single “Bad Girl” started, everything changed – the EP sold over 10.000 copies during its first week and 40.000 copies till early 2010. At that time, this was considered a huge success for a new group. 

Several awards followed, including those for “Rookies” (new artists, beginners), making Highlight a multi-award-winning group, including being a record award-winning act at the Golden Disc Awards, Seoul Music Awards and Melon Music Awards. 

The group debuted in Japan in 2011. 

After leaving Cube Entertainment and changing their name in 2017, the first member left the group: Jang Hyun-Seung. He stayed with his label. You may know him as part of the Duo “Troublemaker” (with singer Hyuna). During the course of 2019, Yong Jun-Hyung also left the group due to a scandal. 

Member Doo-joon was the first one to leave for the military in 2018. Marked by the military obligations of the remaining members, a hiatus began that still included the Album “Outro” (sung by four members of Highlight). This is a common issue in South Korea and many groups decide to pause altogether, while their members are absent. Dong-woon left the military in 2020, and this marked the start of a new era for Highlight. 

In May 2021, their comeback album “The Blowing” was released. 

Das wäre dann erstmal die Einführung zu Highlight als Gruppe, aber wir möchten euch hier natürlich die einzelnen aktiven Mitglieder genauer vorstellen, da in ihnen noch viel mehr steckt als nur eine “Boygroup”. 

Yang Yo-Seop (양요섭, Yoseop, 5. Januar 1990) ist der Hauptvokalist von Highlight. Daher ist es nicht ungewöhnlich, dass er nebenbei seit 2011 eine besonders erfolgreiche Karriere als Musicalsänger hat. Zu seinen zahlreichen Hauptrollen haben bisher gehört: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Full House, Zorro, Robin Hood, Cinderella und Those Days.

And that´s our introduction to Highlight as a group. But we would also like to focus on the individual members, because of their capabilities beyond just being part of a boygroup. 

Yang Yo-Seop (양요섭, Yoseop, 5. January 1990) is the main vocalist. Due to his voice, he has built up an impressive career as a musical singer since 2011. Several of his main roles have included Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Full House, Zorro, Robin Hood, Cinderella and Those Days.

Son Dong-Woon (손동운, Dongwoon, 06. Juni 1991) ist neben Highlight auch als Solosänger und in Musicals aktiv (Catch me if you can, The Great Gatsby [[Reboot]], Altar Boyz). 

In Variety Shows ist er ebenso immer wieder anzutreffen. 

Son Dong-Woon (손동운, Dongwoon, 06. June 1991) has been active as a soloist as well, and as a musical singer (Catch me if you can, The Great Gatsby [[Reboot]], Altar Boyz). He is also a regular guest in variety shows.

Lee Gi-Kwang (이기광, Kikwang, 30.März 1990) ist auch als Songwriter und Schauspieler unterwegs. Bevor er zu Highlight kam, war er bereits unter dem Künstlernamen Aj (Ace Junior) tätig. Er ist der “Main Dancer” von Highlight. 

Lee Gi-Kwang (이기광, Kikwang, 30. March 1990) is a songwriter and actor. Before becoming part of Highlight, he was already known as AJ (Ace Junior). He is Highlight´s main dancer. 

Und Last but not Least: Yoon Doo-Joon (윤두준, Doojoon, 04. Juli 1989) ist der “Leader” der Gruppe und hat sich neben Highlight vor allem als Schauspieler in Filmen und Dramen einen Namen gemacht.   

Last but not least, there is Yoon Doo-Joon (윤두준, Doojoon, 04. Juli 1989) , the leader of the group. He has acted in several successful movies and dramas.
